THE MONSTER AMONG US

How To Play

The Monster Among Us is a social deduction game where one player is secretly a monster. There are several possible types of monster (such as a Werewolf, Vampire, or Demon). To win, the villagers will need to find out not only WHO the monster is, but WHAT type of monster they are. The monster will choose another player from among the Villagers to join the Monster team as the Minion. Both pretend to be innocent Villagers and work together to remain hidden. You are allowed to lie, bluff, and mislead others to achieve your goals—but you must never show your screen to another player.

Win Conditions

At the end of the game, an accusation phase will be held in which players will try to identify both WHO the monster is, and WHAT the monster is. They will propose accusations in turn, and then vote on them. If an accusation is supported by the majority of the players, the game ends immediately - either in a victory for the Villagers (if they are correct), or for the Monster and Minion (if the accusation is incorrect).

Villagers

Identify both WHO the Monster is and WHAT kind of monster they are during a final accusation phase.

Monster Team

Win if the Villagers fail to correctly identify WHO the monster is, and WHAT kind of monster they are.

Round Flow
1. Day Discussion

A timed period to talk through clues and plan movement.

2. Pawn Placement

Players each place their pawns on a location in turn order with no talking.

3. Night Actions

Players wake up one at a time to check evidence at their location. The monster will make a kill on their turn, and the minion may swap two pieces of evidence.

Deduction & Evidence

Each possible type of monster has exactly one piece of evidence on the map, except for the type actually in play, which appears twice. Finding the doubled evidence reveals what kind of monster is in play.

All players are assigned Occupations with unique abilities. These are always public and help the Villagers better explore the evidence to find out what type of monster is in play.

Monster and Minion Rules

The Monster must kill during their night action every round. Most kills must be on the Monster's location or an adjacent one (they can even kill themself, or the same player twice!). This proximity is the main way to track them.

Once per game, the Monster can use a Special Kill to strike from any distance. The Minion can also swap evidence locations at night to mislead the Villagers.

No Player Elimination: Although players are killed by the monster each night, they continue to play as a Peasant, losing any occupation ability they had.
